Life Insurance

Ricky Don Balckmon

Do you have a car, home, etc?  Then you know what it means to have insurance with deductibles.  If you have a family you may even have life insurance.  If the person the policy is taken out on dies, then you will receive a sum of money from that insurance company.

INSURANCE:  when we hear the word we think of being protected from danger in an accident or an act of mother nature.  But, in terms of insurance, have you ever considered insurance for yourself after you die?  You have insurance to repair material things, but what about spiritual?

If you drive around with no insurance and you wreck your automobile, you will suffer much from paying to get it repaired.  If it is totaled, you lose the automobile and have to replace it, not to mention the cost if someone else’s automobile is involved.

When you die you will have expenses for a funeral, casket, etc.  You surely don’t want to leave loved ones behind with the burden of paying your funeral expenses without some kind of insurance, especially if you are the one who brings home the money to care for the needs of the family.

But life insurance is more than just a mortal thing!

When you die you could have a second life, or you could have a second death!  “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Heb. 9:27).  The life insurance you need to obtain for that second life is ETERNAL LIFE, “for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

Without that life insurance, you are in trouble.  “He who believes in Me does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me, and he who beholds Me beholds the One who sent Me.  I have come as light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness.  And if anyone hears My sayings, and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to the world but to save the world.  He who rejects Me, and does not receive My sayings, has One who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.  For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me commandment, what to say, and what to speak.  And I know that His commandment is Eternal Life” (Jn. 12:44-50).  And the words by which we obtain Eternal Life we find in Jesus Christ (Jn. 6:66-68).

We have the promise of life in Christ Jesus (2 Tim. 1:1), for Jesus gives eternal life (Jn. 10:28).

How do we secure this kind of life insurance?  Do you have an insurance agent in town to get it for you?  Can you pick up the phone and call someone to get it?  No, you can only get it through Christ Jesus (Jn. 3:16; 2 Tim. 1:1).  God sent us His Son that we can have eternal life in His Son (I Jn. 5:11, 12).  Once you start your journey to receiving eternal life, never stop and give into that old self, “Fight the good fight of faith, take hold of the eternal life to which you were called” (I Tim. 6:12).

So if you are not part of this eternal promise, I urge you to hear the words of Christ (Rom. 10:17; Heb. 11:6), repent and turn aside from the life of sin (Lk. 13:3; Acts 17:30), confess Christ before men (Acts 10:9), and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16; I Pet. 3:21).  Be buried with Christ in baptism to die and be raised from that water grave to walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:3,4).

Once you have obeyed from the heart and been added to the church (Acts 2:47), walk according to the scriptures and confess your sins to one another (James 5:16; I Jn. 1:8,9).

Won’t you become a member of the body of Christ this very day (as tomorrow is not promised to anyone, James 4:13,14)?
